Chronic pain can take over every part of life, making even simple tasks feel like monumental challenges. For many people, traditional treatments offer minimal relief, leaving them desperate for alternatives. Dr. Steph Decker and Dr. Jaimie McCormick, chiropractors in the Kansas City Metro, are changing the way chronic pain is managed. Their innovative techniques, rooted in a holistic understanding of the body, are providing lasting relief to patients dealing with pain that often seems without a clear cause.
Though each chiropractor runs her own practice – Dr. Steph at Stay Mobile Chiropractic in Overland Park, Kansas, and Dr. Jaimie at OM Chiropractic in Kansas City, Missouri – they share a common approach focused on patient empowerment and personalized care.

A Unique Technique
Dr. Steph and Dr. Jaimie both use a specialized technique derived from spinal stressology, which focuses on the body’s ability to heal itself naturally. Dr. Steph explains: “Our technique is a holistic approach based on a dynamic understanding of the anatomy of the body. When something goes wrong in our structure, muscles pull bones back into place. However, if a bone in the spine gets pushed forward, there are no muscles to pull it back, as the spine is at the back of the body.”
This technique relies on gentle standing adjustments, where specific areas of the spine are manipulated to guide vertebrae back into proper alignment. As Dr. Jaimie puts it, “The beauty of this method is that it works with the body’s natural mechanics rather than forcing it into a movement that feels unnatural or uncomfortable.”
Both chiropractors agree that treating chronic pain requires addressing the root causes, such as those from past injuries. Whether those causes come from falls, car accidents, or simply accumulated tension over the years, Dr. Steph and Dr. Jaimie emphasize that small issues that seem to resolve themselves on their own can develop into significant chronic pain if left unaddressed.

Addressing Chronic Pain
Chronic pain is the central focus of both Dr. Steph and Dr. Jaimie’s work. Dr. Steph shares, “The pain that starts small and worsens over time is where our technique excels. It’s often the result of trauma that the body can’t fully adapt to. Over time, layers of tension accumulate and cause ongoing discomfort.”
Dr. Jaimie elaborates: “Our approach targets those hidden imbalances in the body’s structure that can’t correct themselves. It’s not about fixing symptoms; it’s about resolving the underlying issues that create chronic pain. A lot of times, people don’t even realize that pain can be a result of misalignment, which is where we come in.”
Both doctors use their technique to treat pain without directly adjusting the painful area. For example, Dr. Jaimie recently treated a patient suffering from chronic hip pain that originated from an old injury. Through targeted adjustments elsewhere in the body, she was able to resolve the pain, proving how interconnected the body’s systems really are.

Empowering Patients Through Education
A cornerstone of Dr. Steph and Dr. Jaimie’s practices is patient education. Dr. Jaimie emphasizes, “It’s important for patients to understand the role of ergonomics in causing pain, we teach patients how to create an environment that promotes healthy structure and reduces inflammation,” she says. “When patients understand their environment’s impact on their pain, they become empowered to identify triggers and make changes that lead to lasting relief.”
Dr. Steph shares a patient story: “One patient realized that a specific chair at work was contributing to her pain. With some guidance, she was able to make small adjustments in the chair that stopped causing the pain. Her realization changed her treatment plan from ‘it will take a while to get better’ to ‘I can’t believe it’s gone.’ This is why we focus on educating our patients. It’s not just about providing immediate relief; it’s about teaching them how to maintain that relief.”

Diet and Pain Management
Diet is another important aspect of managing chronic pain for both Dr. Steph and Dr. Jaimie. Both chiropractors recognize the role inflammation plays in exacerbating pain and often advise patients to adjust their diets to reduce it. Dr. Steph recounts the story of a rheumatoid arthritis patient who experienced remarkable improvement after combining chiropractic care with dietary changes.
“She went from being almost wheelchair-bound to hiking and traveling without pain,” Dr. Steph says. “She took control of her diet, and that’s a huge part of the healing process.”
Dr. Jaimie adds, “It’s not just about what we do in the office. It’s about encouraging patients to make lifestyle changes, whether it’s in what they eat, how they move, or how they rest. All of these factors contribute to their overall well-being.”

Collaborative Care
Despite their independent practices, Dr. Steph and Dr. Jaimie frequently collaborate to best serve their patients. Dr. Steph remembers a group of Mennonite patients who traveled 2.5 hours to see her. Recognizing the effort this required for them, she began traveling to their community. Now, to ensure they receive consistent care, she and Dr. Jaimie alternate weeks, offering their specialized approach closer to home.
“There aren’t many chiropractors who practice the way we do,” Dr. Jaimie explains. “Being able to rely on each other means our patients always have access to the care they need.”

Stories of Success
Both Dr. Steph and Dr. Jaimie have numerous success stories from their practices that highlight the effectiveness of their techniques. Dr. Steph shares a recent case of a patient, a professor who had struggled with low back pain for 6 years. It took about 20 treatments, but now maintains a pain free life with only one session a month.
“It’s about giving people their time back,” Dr. Jaimie says. “They can stop worrying about the pain and start focusing on living their lives.”

Personal Journeys
Dr. Steph and Dr. Jaimie’s paths into chiropractic care were shaped by personal experiences with chronic pain. Dr. Steph endured neck pain with numbness and tingling in her hands for over a decade. Finding relief through chiropractic care, she now practices the technique that helped her. “It was life-changing,” she says. “I got my life back, and now I can give that same gift to others.”
Dr. Jaimie’s journey is equally personal. She witnessed the transformative power of chiropractic care in her own life, and it inspired her to pursue the profession. Growing up, she loved watching her father, a chiropractor, work with patients and saw firsthand the impact he had on their lives. Today, she’s dedicated to helping others find relief, just as she did.

A Shared Vision
Though their practices are separate, Dr. Steph and Dr. Jaimie share a unified vision: to provide patient-centered care that addresses the root causes of chronic pain. Through education, holistic treatment, and personalized care, they are making a lasting difference in the lives of their patients. They are also each other’s chiropractors, often spending time together discussing new cases and learning from one another about how to grow as professionals. Whether in Overland Park or Kansas City, patients trust that they are in capable hands. As Dr. Jaimie says, “We don’t just treat pain – we treat people, and we help them get their lives back.”
