Heart health is central to longevity and quality of life, and few organizations are making as profound an impact in this space as HCA Midwest Health and its cardiovascular services. With one of the region’s most advanced networks for cardiovascular and electrophysiology care, HCA Midwest Health brings together a multidisciplinary team of cardiologists, electrophysiologists, surgeons, researchers and more, all dedicated to a single purpose — helping Kansas City live longer, healthier lives.

To meet the growing need for cardiovascular care, HCA Midwest Health is expanding its team of providers – with six new physicians starting in 2025 and more on the way. Two of those new providers are familiar faces in Kansas City.

Interventional cardiologists Venkat R. Pasnoori, MD, and Prashanth Katrapati, MD – both physicians with longtime established practices in and around Kansas City, Kansas, recently joined HCA Midwest Health. Dr. Pasnoori is board certified in cardiovascular disease, nuclear cardiology and interventional cardiology. He is a fellow of the American College

of Cardiology and Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions. Dr. Katrapati is board certified in internal medicine, cardiology, interventional cardiology, echocardiology, nuclear cardiology, vascular ultrasound and endovascular medicine. He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions.

“We believe the best outcomes come from understanding the patient first,” said Dr. Katrapati. “Our approach isn’t just about treating blocked arteries or irregular heartbeats — it’s about helping people understand their heart health, empowering them to make lasting changes, and providing access to the most advanced treatments available.”

A Team Approach to Heart Health

Cardiology today is no longer a one-doctor specialty. The HCA Midwest Health network encompasses experts in interventional cardiology, electrophysiology, cardiovascular and thoracic surgery, vascular surgery and structural heart care. Together, they create seamless treatment plans designed around each patient’s needs.

This team-based philosophy ensures every patient benefits from a coordinated, multi-specialist perspective — one that considers not just immediate symptoms, but long-term cardiovascular wellness.

“We’ve seen what’s possible when we take a collaborative approach,” said Dr. Pasnoori. “By combining expertise across specializations, we can treat more complex conditions safely, using procedures that are less invasive and more effective than ever before.”

From routine heart screenings and diagnostic imaging to complex interventions like TAVR (transcatheter aortic valve replacement) and minimally invasive bypass surgery, HCA Midwest Health offers a full continuum of care. Patients benefit from advanced imaging, leading-edge techniques, and a shared data system that keeps every provider aligned — creating continuity that leads to better outcomes.

Innovation at the Core

HCA Midwest Health’s cardiologists are no strangers to medical firsts. Their specialists performed the first protected percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) using advanced pumping technology as well as the first minimally invasive bypass surgery in the Kansas City region — milestones that demonstrate technical leadership and a commitment to safer, more efficient patient care.

Their work doesn’t stop in the operating room. Many HCA Midwest Health physicians actively participate in national clinical trials, helping shape the future of cardiac medicine and expanding treatment options available to patients right here at home.

“Research drives progress,” Dr. Katrapati added. “Clinical trials give us the chance to offer our patients tomorrow’s therapies today. It’s one of the most exciting aspects of working within the HCA Midwest Health system and the larger HCA Healthcare family — we’re part of something much larger, with the infrastructure and expertise to lead innovation in cardiology.”

Care That’s Empathetic, Responsive and Best in Class

HCA Midwest Health operates under a simple philosophy: empathetic, responsive and best-in-class care. For patients, that means doctors who listen, care teams who respond quickly, and systems that make care more accessible through telecardiology, extended appointment hours, and local outreach clinics.

“Heart care has to fit into people’s lives,” Dr. Pasnoori said. “It’s not just about technology and treatments — it’s about meeting patients where they are. Whether it’s through telemedicine, preventive education, or same-day access to a specialist, we’re constantly finding new ways to make care convenient.”

With seven affiliated hospitals — Research Medical Center, Overland Park Regional Medical Center, Centerpoint Medical Center, Menorah Medical Center, Lee’s Summit Medical Center, Belton Regional Medical Center and Lafayette Regional Health Center — as well as a management agreement with Cass Regional Medical Center, HCA Midwest Health ensures advanced cardiac services are available across the metro.

Beyond Treatment: Building a Culture of Prevention

While HCA Midwest Health is at the forefront of interventional procedures, its physicians also emphasize prevention and early detection. Routine screenings for blood pressure, cholesterol, and heart rhythm identify risks before they escalate into emergencies.

HCA Midwest Health also offers an online Heart Health Risk Assessment at HCAMidwest.com, giving individuals a personalized overview of their cardiovascular health and guiding them toward next steps.

“The real power in cardiology is prevention,” said Dr. Katrapati. “Our goal is to help people avoid their first heart attack, not just recover from it. When we can identify risks early — through screenings, education and lifestyle support — we can dramatically change the course of someone’s life.”

Accessibility is another cornerstone of HCA Midwest Health. Through Midwest Heart and Vascular Specialists, patients can find clinical locations throughout Kansas City and neighboring communities in both Kansas and Missouri.

HCA Midwest Health is continually working to improve access to cardiology care, including the recent addition of six new physicians and two new locations in Kansas City, KS and Lansing, KS: electrophysiologist Amit Koduri, MD, cardiologist Emilio Fentanes, MD, and interventional cardiologists Amit Amin, MD, Dan Arman, MD, Prashanth Katrapati, MD, and Venkat R. Pasnoori, MD.

“We want every patient to feel confident that wherever they are in Kansas City, exceptional heart care is nearby,” said Dr. Pasnoori. “It’s not just about having the latest technology — it’s about bringing it to the people who need it.” Every beat matters — and for HCA Midwest Health, every patient does too.
