Making Kansas City Healthier and Happier

Each step towards improved health and well-being is a step in the right direction.

If you have already abandoned your New Year’s Resolution, or if you have not even made one, there is still time left to wrangle it in and get rolling into a healthier lifestyle in 2020. Regarded as the Midwest’s largest fitness and healthy living event, the Good Living KC Expo will present 200+ vendors and sponsors who can help you get that New Year’s Resolution headed in the right direction. This second annual event is slated for Friday, January 31 through Saturday, February 1 and will be held at the Overland Park Convention Center.

With something for people of all ages, this event will embrace all of your senses with its interactive, experiential setting with a focus on staying fit, healthy and active. No matter what your health and wellness goal is – losing weight, getting in shape, discovering natural aesthetics, learning about nutrition or diet, or simply upgrading your wellness lifestyle – you won’t want to miss out on this incredible two-day celebration of feeling great.

Event owner and organizer, Aimee Jacobson, is excited about what is shaping up around this fun-filled weekend and anticipates an even greater draw this year than last year.

“We had about 6,000 guests last year and we anticipate around 7,500 this year,” she noted.

Jacobson is pleased to have many major sponsors returning this year, including presenting sponsor Sunlighten Saunas.

“We plan to have a much broader focus this year in terms of vendors who are coming from all parts of the metro area,” noted Jacobson.

An all-inclusive event, Jacobson’s primary goal through the expo is to make Kansas City healthier and happier, whether for yourself, your spouse, or your family. Come and spend a few hours, a full day or both days and discover new, tasty and exciting ways to ramp up your health and wellness goals.

Don’t Just Sit There! Come Join a Class and Discover a Healthy New Habit

If you have always wanted to experience the fun of Jazzercise, the benefits of yoga or the thrill of boxing, then step up to the main stage and join the fun in a variety of free fitness classes. On Friday afternoon, you can take part in a Title Boxing Club class or work up a sweat in a session with Genesis Health Club trainers. Throughout the day on Saturday, you are invited to participate in classes by Stretch Zone, Jazzercise, Elite Martial Arts and Yoga Six Overland Park. And after you have been moving and grooving, stick around for Gigi’s Vegan Cooking Class and an experience with Sunlighten Saunas. From head to toe, this expo has it all.

“These classes are free of charge, but you do have to sign up in advance to participate,” said Jacobson.

Also, if you are thinking about running a road race, visit with KC Running Company and sign up for that 5k or half marathon you have been considering. Want more information on personal training? Experts will be on hand to discuss body fat and measurements, personal approaches to working out, and training tips. You can also visit with massage therapists, physical therapists, and chiropractors.

An Exciting New Addition: Informational Seminars

“We are offering something new this year, which is a series of seminars,” indicated Jacobson. “These will be held outside the exhibit hall and will provide a more intimate setting for about 20 people.”

No reservation is required for these seminars, all of which are offered free of charge and will last about 20-30 minutes each. It is a chance to come and learn about various aspects of health and wellness. Among the sessions offered include education about mindfulness; how to deal with stress; therapeutic dry needling; acupuncture and chiropractic care; extracorporeal shock wave therapy; the human energy system (chakras and auras); intermittent fasting and carb cycling; the health benefits of CBD; the power of raw food; and even some sound advice on becoming financially fit. Come for one or stay for all.

Yes, Please Bring the Kids!

The popular Kid Zone has returned featuring many interactive experiences for the younger guests, including a rock climbing inflatable wall, face painting, balloon art, and a visit from KC Wolf on Saturday from 1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.

Download the App

New this year, guests can download the Good Living Expo app onto their Smart phone or handheld device, which will give them access to all information surrounding the event.

“Just go to your app store and download the app which will give you immediate access to the entire show guide, seminars, classes and contests,” stated Jacobson.

Live the Good Life Contest

At the beginning of January and running up until the week of the event, guests can enter online to win a prize package of over $1500 of prizes from various vendors. Additionally, the expo is promoting a “sponsor road map,” encouraging guests to visit all of the sponsors by scanning a QR code on the event app, much like a passport stamp, and be entered to win a Yeti Cooler filled with exciting prizes.

Take a Part of the Good Living Expo Home with You

In addition to all of the exciting educational and informational opportunities presented at this event, you can also enjoy purchasing various products from many of the vendors.

“Our vendors will have many products to sell this year, including healthy food and drinks, gluten free and vegan snacks, vitamins, supplements, skin care products, saunas, gym equipment, and fitness wear,” indicated Jacobson.

Additionally, juice companies will provide tasty libations, and three healthy food trucks and other food vendors will be on site preparing incredible fare to give your body the good fuel it needs.

A Time to Give at the Expo

At the expo last year, 370 coats were donated by guests to One Warm Coat, a national non-profit organization that provides free, warm coats to people in need within the Kansas City community.

“You can donate a gently used coat, scarf or mittens at the event and receive a free ticket,” expressed Jacobson. “We will donate all of these to One Warm Coat after the event.”

In addition to Sunlighten Saunas, other sponsors include Healthy Kansas City magazine, Smoothie King, Stretch Zone Lenexa, Sprouts, CareNow, Genesis Health Club, Elite Marital Arts, Supplement Superstores, Thrasher, Renewal by Anderson, iFamily KC and InstafunKC.

No matter what time you arrive or what day you choose to participate in this one-of-a-kind expo, you will undoubtedly leave feeling energized, renewed, refreshed, and ready to embrace a healthier lifestyle in 2020 and beyond, making that New Year’s Resolution you promised you’d stick to this year easily accomplished.
