Aging is a natural part of life, and the desire to stay healthy and maintain a youthful appearance while doing so is universal. September is Healthy Aging Month, and while we can’t stop the clock, there are several strategies to adopt in order to ensure that we age gracefully, inside and out. There is so much excitement in our city, and so much life to be lived. Everyone should have the opportunity to enjoy themselves and live their lives to the fullest.

The various different tricks and tools to staying healthy seem to be growing more and more as time progresses. However, you can’t beat the basics in regard to living a healthy lifestyle. Maintaining a healthy diet, staying physically active, keeping your mind active, scheduling regular checkups with your primary care physician, and keeping yourself happy are all universal tips that may contribute to healthy aging.

Mindy Ladatto – CEO Ageless Med Spa by Mindy

Although this issue features some talented Cosmetic Surgeons that do incredible work, there are a host of things you can do before going under the scalpel. We asked Ageless Med Spa by Mindy about some of the many treatments available to keep that healthy, youthful look that we all chase, and she provided many useful tips and recommended various options for injectables.

There are several options to maintain facial harmony, and in order to achieve the best results, it takes more than one option at times. Ageless Med Spa by Mindy often recommends starting with lasers, microneedling, medical grade skin care and monthly facials to prep the skin. These treatments correct the effects of photoaging, including fine lines, irregular pigmentation, and blemishes such as acne scarring.

On that note, Mindy informs that injectables such as toxins, fillers and collagen stimulators assist in correcting fine lines, wrinkles, hollowing and volume loss. All of these treatments can be used to achieve natural results. Similarly, neurotoxins such as Botox, Xeomin and Daxxify can be used to minimize dynamic lines on the forehead, “crow’s feet” around the eyes, and other areas of the face.

She defines fillers as soft substances that can be used to improve the appearance of facial imperfections, correct deep wrinkles, fill out cheek hollows, plump lips and so much more depending on the treatment goal. This treatment option works by filling out the space below the wrinkles replacing lost fat and increasing volume. Typically, as we age, starting in the 30’s, collagen decreases which contributes to sagging skin and drooping, distortions to the balance, proportion and symmetry of the face.

In order to help restimulate this natural collagen, another injectable, Sculptra, helps with this, improving overall skin quality and smoothing wrinkles. Sculptra can reduce wrinkles in the broader cheek area when smiling and at rest. Sculptra works within the body to help rebuild lost collagen and restore the skin’s foundation. These results are gradual but will result in skin that is smooth, firm and gives a natural glow.

Skinvive, also an injectable, is a hyaluronic acid injectable indicated to improve the skin smoothness of the cheeks. As we age, not only do we lose collagen, but we also lose natural moisture. Skinvive can help to increase hydration giving a natural, healthy glow and overall improving the skin. This treatment only takes 15 minutes, with results typically lasting 6 months.

Emma Cook, NP

Nurse practitioner Emma with Ageless Med Spa by Mindy expands on rejuvenating aging skin in terms of medical grade skin care. She echoes that rejuvenating aging skin involves a multi-faceted approach combining daily skincare, targeted treatments, professional interventions, and lifestyle adjustments if needed. A formal evaluation and comprehensive treatment plan that includes a medical grade cleanser, moisturizer, SPF, retinoid, vitamin C and exfoliant can get you on the right track to addressing your skin care goals!

In addition to these habits, Emma reveals another effective way to naturally stimulate collagen: microneedling. This procedure stimulates the body’s natural healing process and collagen production. This treatment is effective for reducing the appearance of acne scars, fine lines, and improving overall skin texture. As well as microneedling, laser therapies target specific skin concerns, such as wrinkles, redness or acne. This treatment also promotes the all-important collagen production, leading to smoother, more even skin. Emma also informs us on more daily lifestyle modifications that can be addressed outside of the office including maintaining a healthy diet that is rich in antioxidants, staying adequately hydrated to maintain skin elasticity, and aiming for 7-9 hours of sleep for optimal skin repair and regeneration.

In conclusion, maintaining healthy, youthful skin as we age is achievable with consistent care and mindful choices, along with some of the extra tools that Ageless Med Spa by Mindy shared. Furthermore, September’s designation as Healthy Aging Month serves as an important reminder to prioritize wellness at every stage in our lives. This month encourages people to adopt small, sustainable changes that can lead to long-term health benefits. Embracing these habits not only supports aging skin but also contributes to overall well-being, allowing us to age gracefully, and promote a vibrant and fulfilling lifestyle well into our later years.
